Bring a Dose of Escapism to your Bathing Routine

Bring a Dose of Escapism to your Bathing Routine

We might not all be able to go on our holidays this year and enjoy the odd relaxing spa treatment (or six) but that shouldn’t stop us from treating ourselves to a little bit of privileged pampering in our own bathrooms.

Follow these top tips and you’ll be feeling like you’ve enjoyed a session in a world-class spa in no time at all.

Re-create a zen-like spa atmosphere in your bathroom
This is the hard step, but it will be worth it in the end. Give your bathroom a good de-cluttering; stashing away all your bathroom goodies may seem like a laborious task but are you really going to feel truly relaxed, surrounded by half empty bottles of shampoo and conditioner? If you have them, bring out your personal bath linens (if you haven’t, put them on your To Buy list: a set of gorgeous towels, a pair of hand towels, a huge bath sheet and a super-soft bath mat). Once you’ve done that, add a touch of greenery – indoor plants have a wonderfully positive effect on our mood – light some scented candles, select some meditation-type, soft-tunes for your playlist and you’re good to go.

Select Your Scent
Aroma is a very personal preference and although your body will be drawn to what it most needs, there are certain essential oils whose properties will naturally help your mind and body relax; to feel deeply relaxed try vetiver, camomile or sandalwood, for something lighter try ylang ylang, petigrain or lavender. You’ll need to dilute the essential oil (5 – 20 drops) with a carrier oil such almond, coconut or even vegetable oil (2 tablespoons), mix well then add some of it to running water and the rest just before you get in.

Combine Your Bath with Mask Time
While you’re soaking and blissing out, it’s the perfect time to treat your skin. Face masks are the foundation of any luxurious skin care routine and there are plenty of them to choose from. Depending on your requirements, you could opt for an exfoliating peel, a leave -overnight cream mask, a charcoal clay mask or a hydrating, plumping mask. Apply to the face and as much of the neck and decolletage area that’s not soaking in water and relax.

Step out of your bath and wrap yourself in your oversized, fluffy bath towel, pat yourself down and apply some silky body lotion. It’s not absolutely essential but applying a dreamy body lotion post bath is delightfully indulgent. So go ahead and treat yourself.
