If you practice yoga regularly you’ll no doubt love the way it enables your body to move and stretch and the way it lengthens out your spine, resulting in a more flexible and limber you; however you might not be quite so aware of how much the yoga asanas (poses) help to relieve facial tension, clear underlying congestion and pump oxygen-enriched blood around the body, delivering health-boosting nutrients to give you a glowing complexion.
A poor digestive system can show up as dull looking skin so yoga asanas like Paschimottanasana (seated forward bend) and Bhujangasana (cobra pose) that help to stimulate the abdominal organs, will not only improve your digestion but bring a healthy glow back to your skin.
Ustrasana (camel pose) facilitates blood flow specifically into the facial muscles and the head whilst Trikonasana (triangle pose) helps flood the skin with oxygen by opening up the lungs, chest and heart energising and rejuvenating the entire system.
These asanas (and many more) will also help to increase the drainage of lymph that helps eliminate toxic waste, a by-product of cellular functioning, from the body thus stimulating the skin in a way that it regenerates and replenishes itself, providing longer-lasting and very natural results.
There’s also the meditational aspect of yoga, usually experienced at the end of a class or facilitated through Pranayama (breathing exercises), it not only helps rest the mind by slowing down the mental loops of frustration, regret, anger, fear and desire that can stress you out, but keeps positive energy or ‘chi’ flowing through the body, flooding your cells with vital energies, helping you to feel incredibly relaxed, with the added bonus that headaches and other tension related symptoms (that often show in our faces) very often disappear.
If you haven’t done so already, perhaps it’s time you considered incorporating yoga into your life as part of your holistic, anti-ageing, beauty routine.
