How well you behave post-massage, not only assists in the healing and recovery process but it can influence the longevity of the session’s results – thus ensuring you get way more value for your money.

Drink plenty of water; Drinking water post-massage, helps with the detoxification process and keeps the body hydrated. Massage helps to increase the circulation of both the blood and the lymphatic system thereby releasing waste products out of your muscles into circulation. Your blood needs water in it to keep it moving and doing its job of bringing oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, organs and other tissues whilst the lymphatic system, acting as a fluid transport system, takes away the waste products created by the cells in these areas. As a result of the increase in lymph circulation, it can be common to need to go to the toilet quite frequently after a massage which means you’re losing water every time you go, so you need to replace lost fluids to keep the cycle going.

Avoid strenuous activity; After a massage as it is not unusual to feel tired and sleepy so a period of rest may be required as the body recuperates and becomes accustomed to any changes in tension and flexibility. Even if you feel significantly better don’t be tempted to increase your activities, your muscles have just been worked and manipulated, similar to an intense work out — heading to the gym, back to work or out for a night on the town means you run the risk of injury. If you do feel hungry, opt for lighter, healthy foods such as salads, omelettes, poached eggs, cous cous, fruit, steamed fish or vegetables i.e. food that is easier to digest – heavy or processed food will diminish the toxicity-flush out your body will be processing, resulting in an unfinished treatment.
